what breed of dog would you suggest for our family?

we live in a town house with a fairly reasonably sized yard. i have a three year old son and i'm expecting my second one in December.

I am a stay at home mom and my husband is a police officer who works 3-12am.

suggestions?? (size doesn't matter)

I personally think you should take a look at your local shelter. the animals there have the best tempermant of all. but before you even decide to get a animal please do reserch on the breed, prepare your house for it, and make sure your able to tend to it like you would your own child.
