Tense family and stupid ramikins?

I envy my boyfriend's family; they are so lovely, entertaining and charming with all the good morals, interesting intelectual conversation like my family only so *relaxed* about it. Whereas mine are so tense in comparison. My parents niggle over little things like how many shoes are in the hall, what glassware to use and it drives me crazy.
I've been invited for dinner at his again next week but to also make my chocolate mousse for pudding- which I'm more than delighted to make for them- only Mum's recently told me how I can't use her ramikins asthough she doesn't trust me or my boyfriend's family with them.
This makes me so mad because problems like this always seem to occur & only leads to complications whereby I now have to go shopping after college tomorrow to buy some cheaper ramikins to use.
Why can't my family be less up-tight? Why can't they relax over the simple issues and what can I do to stop myself from getting so stressed and ending up just the same?!

Dont start a fight - it is your mothers choice although she seems to be a bit ridiculous. You dont have a dish you can use to put the cream in?
