My wedding planner has arranged for my family to do a food tasting for the event catering? Would this be free? I'm just not sure if I'll have to pay for it and I certainly don't want any more added expenses to the already big number I am looking at, especially if we end up going through a lot of these events before we finally like the food and end up choosing the vendor. I am embarrassed to ask the planner - I don't want her to think I'm being really cheap...

Most reception halls offer a complimentary food tasting (in reality, it's built into the cost of your reception). If you don't want to sound cheap, call your planner and ask if the facility will accept credit cards for the tasting, like you're planning on paying for it. She will then either say yes, they do, or no, you don't need to bring anything with you, it's free. If she does say to bring a credit card, and you still want to know how much it will be, say "and if I prefer to pay in cash, how much should I bring." Or you could anonymously call your caterer and ask if they include a complimentary tasting, if so, for how many people, and if not, how much is it

Usually the tasting is inclusive, but by all means ask the planner. She's your employee, and her role here is not just to help you plan, it's to help save you money. If you're afraid of seeming 'cheap' to her, you could end up paying for a whole mess of things you don't want or need, so get that out of your head. Good luck!
