is it wrong that my parents won't let me meet my boyfriend's family???

So me and my boyfriend have been going out for quite a while now, and his family wants to get to know me. When I told my parents this they just kept askingme why do i need to get to know them and things like that. They want to get to know him, but they refuse to let me get to know his family. Is that even right? and by the way, i'm 17 and he's 18.
i asked them why, and they just said that it's because I can't just go meeting random people...that seems kind of unreasonable to me :/
