Ontarians: 20 years from now, will jehovahs witnesses claim Family Day had pagan...

...roots? This past February the people of Ontario Canada celebrated a newly created holiday on February 18 called "Family Day", a new statutory holiday given to us to spend some time with our loved ones. No rituals, no anything, just spend time.

jehovahs witnesses seem to like saying everythign is pagan (avoiding the fact that a lot of the stuff they do has links to paganism as well). Do you think they add this to their books and pamphlets, that somehow Family Day is a pagan holiday?

Just curious to see what people think.
Why do jehovahs witnesses have to critisize everything? They actually have the balls to come here and insinuate they are the only ones who apprecaiate their families every day? And the only day we appreciate ours in on Family Day? Are you kidding?

Thank you jehovahs witnesses, for showing your true nature here. I will return the favor next time you show up at my door.

I'm sure they will. After all, don't they think that ANY celebration is sin? They don't celebrate the birth of Jesus; they won't celebrate His resurrection; they don't even celebrate their OWN birthdays! I DO believe that celebrating (of ANY kind) is a sin in their eyes! (Maybe it's because they really don't have anything worth celebrating over??? Just a thought. Hmmmmm.)

Pagan or not. It's a sad thing when the government has to dictate that you should spend quality time with your family. Jehovah's Witnesses teachings encourage quality time spent with the family EVERYDAY. We pray as a family, go to meetings several times a week as a family, we eat together on a daily basis, we study the bible as a family, we spend quality time with our children and care for our elderly parents, etc. The list goes on.
Just like Thanksgiving in the states - it's not pagan but JW's give thanks to God EVERYDAY. Not set aside one day out of a whole year to do it. SAD, SAD, SAD!

The holidays that Jehovah's Witness call Pagan are actually pagan. Christmas has a pagan begining, so does Valentines day. They are many other holidays that we do not celebrate that infact we do not call pagan.

I personally would not celebrate family day because i think my family life would suffer greatly if i waited untill February 18 each year to spend time with my family. For the same reason I would not celebrate Mother's Day, Fathers Day or Valentine's Day. I prefer to shower my loved ones with gifts and love when it is unexpected. If i received a gift on Mother's Day from someone who would not normally give me a gift i would appreciate it less since i only got it because of the Day.

To answer you though, NO, Jehovah's Witnesses will not call the holiday pagan, 20 years from now or 200 years from now.

I really don't need a special day to love my family.
And I would hope they loved me every day also.

Jesus said that everyone would know us by the love we have among ourselves...so this includes our spiritual family as well.

i'm not JW, i'm muslim

and these celebreations such as mother day farthers day and now "family day" seem very silly....read on

is your mother only entitled to one day of kindness...your farther only entitled to one day of kindness and now your family entitled to one day of kindness???

NO!!

you should be good and kind and treat them well 24hrs a day 7 days a week.

So this notion of this persons day and that persons day is just silly if you ask me.

Here watch this clip....about parents in islam...any sensible questions then just ask me

It never ceases to amaze me what strange ideas people have about JWs. Do a bit of research before you criticise others. Find out if Xmas, Easter and all others do have pagan roots.
