Do some people stay Christians because they don’t want to upset their families?

And do you think these same people would indoctrinate their own children into the Christian religion even though they really don’t believe it only to keep their other family members happy?

my mom was very upset and disappointed when i told her i didnt believe in god. she assumed all these years that just because i believed in god when i was a kid, that i STILL DID. it would have been much easier to just never mention it to her.

but i just HAD to go and open my big mouth!

I think it's a tiny seed a fear that religion instills in you that if you don't believe in god you will go to hell, that is pretty scary

well I can speak for myself.
I am atheist, but I dont really want to tell my mom, but only because it would make her so worried.
She is a devout Christian.
But I would never ever raise children in a religion I didnt even agree in.

Yes, Christian is a scary religion! if i was one i'd probably be one scared mother f'er. i mean really look at what those children have to go thru? church EVERY sunday worshiping god every minute having to memorize every line from the bible? especially the ones who decide to go atheist!? wow they'd probably just die right now or else they'd get murdered! remember?

and so they'd murder them thinking that they'll still go to so called "heaven"

really it's a BRUTAL world out there and Christians is 90% reason why

I grew up in a christian home ,and when I was 19 I quit the church. I did not give a stuff that it might upset my parents. It was my life, my decision and they couldnt stop me.

My mother must be so sad. All of her children left the church, and none of the grandchildren are currently practising christians or churchgoers. Although some of the grandchildren were educated at catholic schools.

Thats what happens when your mother is TOO religious. And its what happens when she takes the bible literally and abuses her kids, claiming it was christian discipline.

None of us wanted anything to do with such a horrible religion if it promoted and allowed physical abuse of kids.

Actually I was a convert to Christianity at the age of fourteen.
