Just euthanized my dog, and my family's kinda mad at me. Stumbling, legs...

...collapsing, passing blood, help me... She was 10ish---a shelter rescue---black lab, Rott, spaniel mix who got glaucoma last year. We ennucleated her bad eye, then the other started to go. I could v'e have delayed with steroids, but that stuff's brutal. Was I right? How do I heal?

Absolutely you did the right thing! As your family matures they'll come around to seeing the goodness of what you did, too. Hang in there.

yes your were right dogs can not tell us or show us that they are in pain and with everything you have said about what was wrong with your puppy I'm sure it was in pain a lot of pain..I'm sure your family is just a sad as you are they are just taking it out on you you need to explain to your family that your dog lived a happy life a much better life than if he would have been left in the pound. they need to understand that she was in a lot of pain and this is what is best and now she is out of pain.. healing takes time maybe you and your family could vist the pound and help another dog out and give them the best life possible just like you did with your other dog

Why make them suffer? Animals I mean. If I had no quality of life, and no hope of getting better, I would rather die peacefully and move on. If they were in nature they would have died long ago, and probably in a much worse way.

I'm so sorry, that's very sad. Know that you did the right thing for her and she is no longer in pain, but, is waiting on the other side, whole and healthy, for you to join her, no matter how long it takes.

You did the right thing if she was in pain and suffering. We had to have our Jack put to sleep 4 years ago because of cancer of the tissues and it was hard but he went down and couldnt get back up.It felt like we was putting down one of our kids because we had him for almost 12 years. You will never get over it cause I still miss my Jack and I think about him every day and yes I do have 4 other dogs but Jack will always be in my heart and I know he is in doggy heaven and he isnt in pain anymore. I dont blame you for not wanting to give your girl steroids because they are brutal I mean we could of given Jack chemo but I wouldnt put him through it and like our vet saidthat we could give him chemo but at his age it would really be rough on him and if it was his dog he wouldnt do it and I told him I wasnt gonna do that to Jack I was just gonna take him home and love him till the time comes for him to go to doggy heaven. I am really sorry about your loss and just remember she is in doggy heaven and she isnt in pain anymore

You did the right thing. It's always best for the animal if its suffering to do the right thing.. Even if its hard for you and your family, your baby will love you more for helping her with the pain.. Don't feel sad but know shes in a better place now. I just lost my little dog a couple of weeks ago.. I know its hard but it will be fine. Have you ever heard of a poem called the Rainbow Bridge? Look it up, it helped me a lot.

You did the right thing.I can see how your family is mad at you but they should get over it with time.Right now I am taking care of a pup that my dog had a couple weeks ago.The pup is really thin and tiny.I've been giving it medicines and lots of food to help it gain weight but it hasnt gained a pound yet,Its eye was infected a while back but I healed it with medicines. Now if it doesnt get any better i might have to put it down
