asp2write has a spectacular aura about
Family Tree?

I'm trying to trace my family on my grandmother's side. Her name was Wickham, and I knew her father's name was Shadrach Wickham, and I was able to find his father was Edwin from census reports. Now I'm stuck on Edwin, he was born about 1867, and I thought I had found his father, but a census says he and both parents were born in NY, and the Edwin I found in NY in 1870 census was born about 1867, but the father is listed as being born in NJ, mother as NY.

I need to know if this is a common error, and just keep plugging with that Edwin's family, or is there some other source of information other then ancestry.com, that would be better, more accurate. So where do I go from here?

Also stuck with my mother's side of family, they came here from Canada in 1874, and can't find anything that lists where in Canada they were born.

If someone could give me a kick in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
Thank you, the names I'm stuck on are Joseph Beauregard and his wife Marie S, have also seen it as Mary, he was born in Canada in May 1870, she in 1869, also in Canada, they were married about 1890, and two cesus are different as to immigration, 1 says both came in 1894, another sais he came in 1883, and she came in 1885.
