Financial aid and marriage?

I want to get married soon , but I am going to college this fall and will need to get financial aid. Will being married effect my getting financial aid?
So I don't get any more sarcastic answers. My fiance wants to get married soon and so do I. I am simply asking if being married will effect my financial aid.
Um, my fiance isn't going to school... just me.

It shouldnt but you need to check with the financial aide office how how it could increase the aid or decrease. I am married and got a little more, but each state or university may have it a little different.

The TECHNICAL ANSWER is yes, but, what they don't know won't hurt them.

Just using your words, you WANT to get married. It takes 2 to tango, so, here is what you do.

1. Fill out the FAFSA as a single. I assume, you are still living with your parents. They will be your backbone.

If you do it after you are married, YES, you it will effect your Financial Aid package. YOu deal with NOW, not LATER.

It is easier to attend college single than married... I am married and in college and although I don't regret getting married, it complicates things a lot more. Instead of one loan you have two... so instead of being $20,000 in debtafter school, you are $40,000 in debt. Also depending upon how much your husband to be makes you may not even qualify for grants after you are married (if you combined make more than $20,000 a year, say good bye to grants). Being married and without dependants is also the worst tax bracket to be in, and disqualifies you from tons of scholarships.
If you want to get married for the "perks", think again because there are none while being in college. It takes a lot of hard work and an immense amount of compromise to be married and in college, and it's going to take a lot of sacrafices... way more than you expect. Just be careful, you know what you are ready for and what you arn't ready for... just know that it isn't easy, not even for a second.

I hope this helps, good luck to you!

Well it depends on how much your soon to be husband is making. If hes making alot, then chances are you might not get as much as you would if you were single. Your best bet is to talk to the Financial Aid department at the school and see what they have to say.
