Well, an Emergency Medical Technician course would cover it all, but it is tough -- up over 100 hours. So, I would suggest contacting your Red Cross chapter to see when they are offering "First Aid" courses. Depending on where you are, your community may offer "C.E.R.T." courses that will prepare you for a variety of emergencies.

Helpless feeling isn't it?

well you cant carry around a portable hospital you can have a small first aid kit that includes things such as slings, icepack, band aids, even tylenol. Also buy an easy to flip through first aid guide. It should have many different emergencies and solutions that you can have in you car or take on trips.

also keep in mind dont go out of a reach of cell phone use and keep a map (or gps) of the areas you go to. A gps is expensive but a great investment. You will never get lost and always be able to find your way to a safe place in emergencies.

In addition to what Candj says, learn first aid either at school or through the Red Cross. Also, learn CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver,.

These courses usually don't take long to master and you really could save someone's life with the skills you learn.

You can go to your local fire department. Usually, they offer community classes. This would be the best way for you to ensure you're getting proper advice.
