Can qualified first aiders legally instruct basic first aid to others?

I'm a qualified first aider working in a school. I have just been asked by a teacher to instruct a group of 13yr olds in basic first aid. I've refused as I suspect you probably have to be a qualified "First Aid Instructor" to teach it. ie if I told the kids the wrong information & they used it on somebody, could it come back to me & I be sued? Does anybody know if this is actually true?
I think they assume I'm being awkward but I'm not a teacher so it's not my job anyway.
