How should I make friends?

I'm going to be a sophomore in high school, and I'm just sad that I don't have a single friend yet...

I went to the same high school last year, and well... I never got very close to anyone. My life is lonely now... No friends, or much contact.

The problem I'm afraid of approaching people. What should I do? Should I invite someone to my house to hang out, even though I don't know them that well?

Is it worth the risk? What if she finds me uninteresting or boring? Plus, I'm going on vacation for the whole next month, so it's hard to build a relationship like that.

What's the best approach to this problem?

It will be hard to do this in the school year, because everyone will be so focused on their own friends, and it will be more busy.

How should deal with this?
