How can I get through to an old friend?

Years ago I was a close friend to a special young lady and due to personal tragedy had lost contact. It is ten or some odd years later and I manage to find an old letter and a card she had sent to me while I was away at college. Now I manage to retrieve her number and had called but it seems that she may not remember me which I understand and it is a good thing that number is legit cuz her sister answered but I do not want to come off as if I am some collector or stalker cuz that is not the intention. My question is do I keep calling in the hopes of actually speaking to her or is there another way of doing it.
