My friend's manager tried to ask her out on a date.?

It totally freaked her out and now she is worried he might go too far. She wants to carry a recording device around in case it comes down to her word against his. My question is, what is the legal extent for the recording device. That is, can she legally record him like that? Please be specific if you can.
