PLEASE READ- I've had a stalker for about a year, and my friends beat him up...?

Okay so here is the deal. I had a stalker for about a year. I don't know how to explain this but where I live, there are three predominant areas. One of the areas is where he lived, along with all of my friends so whenever I visited a friend or went to hang out there, he would be following. He has a yellow car, so it is distinct. He also showed up at my school twice, and followed me downtown (started in his area to meet with friend then went downtown) and he was there too... But besides all this, I recently told my friend about this and he went and beat the crap out of him with another friend of his. Why am I so livid about this? I was so mad at my friend for doing this and all I did was yell. And now I feel horrible. Just to put this in perspective, I am 18, stalker is about 24, friend is 19 and friend of a friend is 20...
