crush on my guy friend..?

the first day of class this semester i notice this guy who looked vaguely familiar but i didn't know him well enough to say anything. then i go to my next class.. and the class after that.. and as it turns out, we have almost identical schedules. so as you can imagine, by the 3rd or 4th day of class, it had gotten pretty awkward - we both were noticing each other but didn't say anything to the other. so finally i introduced myself to him, we chatted for a bit, and i felt a million times better. that was about 2 months ago; we spend 3-4 hours together everyday, and are in similar groups of friends so sometimes see each other on the weekends. i had a crush on him at first, but now we've become really great friends who have similar interests and senses of humor. we make each other laugh, can talk for hours, and it never gets old. i don't even think i could spend this much time with my girl friends.. i want to ask him out, but am discouraged by the fact that he hasn't asked me, wut do i do
also -- there's some flirtation, but not much, bc i'm not the flirtatious type. i mean, we've watched movies together, and actually watched the movie... hes also not the awkward type and has dated people that i know pretty well. we're 2nd years who will most likely remain good friends throughout college, in and out of class. i'm afraid of being rejected/making things awkward, and can't tell if he's just not attracted to me..
the other thing is, we hang out so much that it would be hard to distinguish between hanging out, and a date. in conversation, should i just tell him how i feel, or would that freak him out??

Just go for it. He's probably feeling a little awkward about it because you're not showing signs that you like him strongly enough. Like pressing his face into your chest. I'm not saying this is what you should do, but thats basically how strong of a hint you have to make for a guy to notice it.

ask him, last i checked no friendships have ever been ruined because one like the other so you have nothing to lose

Just take the chance and ask him out He probally will say yes, if he says no ask if you can still be friends and for shure if hes a really good friend he would say yes.
