Would a guy who liked a friend (girl ) still go on dates with other girls?

If a guy and a girl have been friends for awhile and she likes him and he acts like he likes her too and they aren't dating but are fairly close, could he have feelings for her but still go out on a couple dates with another girl? What if the other girl is the one would asked him on the dates? Would he date other people even though he had feelings for the friend?
