i feel like a bad friend because this weirded me out!?

my best friend is gay and yesterday we were texting and he said sorry for not answering me earlier that day because he was drifting in and out of sleep. So I said "haha me too, we're so nsync" and he goes "haha soul mates!" and I said "yeah if only I were a guy lol" and he, in complete seriousness, wrote back "not to be a complete freak but you have no idea how i wish that."

So does he fantasize about me being a guy and wanting to be more than a friend like...I don't know how to take it. So i just laughed it off so we didn't get awkward...but still.
