Making Friends in College?

College is right around the corner for me, and now that I know which schools I want to go to I am starting to wonder how to make friends in a new environment. I'm not a shy kid or anything, but it takes me a while to open up to new people. I'm one of those people who won't be the first person to start talking, but once I get into conversation I am completely engaged.

Anyways, I'm curious about how I can make friends in college, because high school has been pretty rough to me. Not to say that I don't have friends, but it appears to me that a all my friends have alienated me and spent time strictly with each other (for whatever reason). The fact that my friends dont show interest in me beyond the classroom makes me really paranoid about going to a college environment, where I will start at Base 1 in terms of social status. I know its silly of me, but its a concern for me. Thanks for the help, if you have any!
