My friend's gyno left her confused...and now she's scared..help please!?

So my friend went to the gynecologist because she suspected that she had genital warts (she already knows she has HPV). However, the NP claimed that it "could be herpes or it could be warts, or both..." How can a NP not be sure what it is by looking at it? She was also a very big meanie to my friend, and she didn't help her out at all. When my friend asked if she could speak to her regular doctor, the NP said "well, the doctor is a very good friend of mine..sooo".

Anyways, is it possible that the NP couldn't be sure of what it was, I thought they were almost certain! She took a smear of the area and said test results would make it certain. My friend didn't see any symptoms of herpes soon after she last had sex, which was in Jan. Now my friend is scared, and I'm not sure what to tell her, please help me! (seriously, it IS my friend, so please give me advice on what to tell her as well)
