Would you bring to your friends attention that........?

I work with a very good friend of mine. They are college educated, however thier spelling is like a 3rd grader. When they e-mail me, or send out a memo; it is totally annoying. I don't see how they can't be major embarrassed. You should see some of the things they spell.
Should I speak to them about this? I am afraid that they will be upset if I say anything. But, I'm thier friend and I am worried about how stupid they look sending that crap out to everyone. What should I do?
