How can I make my friend forgive me?

Me and my best friend Calvin were at the mall in the parking lot. We were walking towards the entrance and Calvin accidentally stepped on this guys shoe. Calvin apologized, but the guy was mad. The guy and his three friends jumped Calvin and was beating him up. I took off running and hid in my car.
It took about 3-5 minutes before the guys stopped beating Calvin up. He wont talk to me now. But it isnt my fault he got beat up, what was I suppose to do?

oh..you should have atleast called the mall security..you don't just run away from friends like that..if he is very hurt try and meet him and if he won't meet with you try and leave a phone message or send a card..explain to him why you did what you did and make it clear that you are ashamed of your behaviour.Try and make it up to him somehow,keep looking out for opportunities...I don't know your ages so I can't figure what else to say.
