Asked out old friend?

I've known a girl for 6 years. We've been friends the whole time. She broke up with her boyfriend, and seems happy to be rid of him. She's always flirted with me, and once even told me she had a crush on me. I asked her out yesterday, and she said she wants to be single for a while. Then, I asked if she thought that she and I would ever have a chance, and she smiled, and said "maybe." Please, help me understand this. Did I get dissed, or is she sincere about it? I hope she was sincere, because I absolutely love this girl. I'm only 1 year older, too. She's 17, and I'm 18. Also, I'm best friends with her half-brother and half-sister. We have a lot in common.
