What would you do if your best friend bought you a very nice gift for your wedding?

BUT, you wanted to return it?
One of my very best friends just sent us our wedding gift (we got married in Nov.) She is in school and doesn't make much money and is planning her own wedding right now. She got me a really nice set of desert plates but the problem is...I don't need them! I have a ton of new dishes. I also didn't register for them (that's a bit beside the point - but to be fair to me I'm mentioning it) And I feel like this was another friend of our's idea...and not really her style.
She will clearly know that I don't have the plates...should I just TELL her that I'm returning them because I don't have room for them? Or should I just keep my mouth shut? Would you feel bad if you were the one who gave the gift? I just feel bad because I know she wanted to get us something really "nice" and it probably put a dent in her bank account

Also, I've been driving my poor husband crazy with dishes since we registered...I think he'd snap if I keep another 8 plates
