I'm 47, have trouble making adult friends?

My shrink and I agree after many years that I have trouble with adult relationships. For years I've managed to skate on the top with nice acquaintences, etc, but rarely let someone truly in or hang out unless it's a lover (of which I've only had one since my husband-been divorced 5 years).

The fact is, I've got fear...of getting too close; I'm a great conversationalist, a strong personality and really don't have problems talking to people at all. I suck at calling people on the phone (although I could talk for hours), and even since I was a kid hated when people called me and interrupted me, even my best classmates.

I'm not really shy, men have complained I'm too strong; but I can't seem to go beyond the 'acquaintence scenario with other moms, etc. Just want any tidbits of advice I don't already have from my 15 plus years in therapy. Because here I am again, alone on Saturday night.
