Are there some generations missing with Jesus' "genealogy"?

Matthew 1:17
"Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ."

I counted:
Abraham to David = 14 generations
David to exile = 13 generations
exile to Christ = 12 generations

it is no different than the bible not telling what became of Seth and who Paul's parents were the bible is incomplete .

to my knowledge the bible has been re-written three times. Jesus was born in august and was also a artist.
