Christians, if the genealogy of Jesus is traced directly back to Adam, then how...

...old does that make man? I believe in the Bible. I know it's true. I have faith.

Science supposedly says that based on radiometric dating that people have been on this planet for over 100,000 years. If you trace the genealogy back in the Bible, it equals roughly 6,000 years.

How do you reconcile the difference?

I know some people think not everything in the Bible is supposed to be literal, but if the genealogy of Jesus is COMPLETELY made up, then I can understand how some people would question what else they got wrong.

I don't question this. I believe in a more literal interpretation of the Bible. I believe there are parables, but what the Bible says is true.

All of our genealogy is traced back to Adam.

The bible is not a history book, nor is it a science book.

It is a book for our salvation.

Well, the confusion stems from the fact that Adam and Eve were the first of God's chosen people, not the first people. The first people were created on the 6th day. It is not given how long is between the 6th day creation of man and the creation of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2. It also isn't given how long the 6th day really was... it could have been millions of years (it states the a day to God is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day... in other words God is constrained by time, which I find interesting especially since relativity has shown us that time is constant as was previously assumed).

This is also why Cain had people to go live with after killing Able.

the only way to reconcile it is to look to see what God say's
about how long they were in the garden....nothing in the

otherwise we can only say this...

1. he created the universe and stuff in 6 days, rested on the 7th

2. adam and eve were in the garden at least 2 days,,,,

3. its been 6,000 years since they left the garden.

4. dating methods and discoveries constantly change
and are very prone to inaccuracies...

If you read the Bible you will see that the earth was created by God and was handed over to satan to rule, "..because to me it has been delivered, and to whomever I want I give it" Luke 4:6. But satan rebelled and God judged the earth, plunging it in darkness. This is shown in Genesis, "and darkness was upon the face of the deep". The Lord would not have created darkness since "The Lord is light, in Him there is no darkness at all".

So, from the time of Adam's creation till now, the MANKIND is about 6000 yrs old, but EARTH could be older and we dont know how many years satan ruled the earth before rebelling against God. And we dont know how time existed (if it did) before the creation of Adam, so it's hard to know the accurate age of the earth

It is proven that light from some stars can take billions of years to reach earth, so it is impossible for the earth to be only 6,000 yearsold.

Yahweh created other humans that inhabited the Earth many years before Yahweh created Adam and Eve.

Earth is only 6,000 years old. Adam and Eve where created as first man and woman in God's image then. Radiometric dating is not accurate enough. The scale is off. To reconcile I would take the factor of 6,000/100,000 = 0.06 this is the difference.
