Do I have any business playing rugby?

I've been interested in rugby for a while now. I've never actually played...unless you count Rugby 06 on Xbox lol. I've been reading on the rules and stuff so that maybe I could start a club at my college. Sadly I don't even have a ball lol. But first off I'm 5'10 240 lbs, do I really have any business playing rugby? I plan on getting down to 225 if that helps. Currently I play Division 3 college football as a defensive lineman.

Definately, you should have a crack at playing. Thats the beautiful thing about rugby, its a game for all shapes and sizes. you would probably have to work on fitness a bit with the pace of the game being alot faster and for longer periods of time. With football you have to go all out for 8 - 15 seconds at a time with plenty of time for breathers between plays and when the offence is on. In rugby you could be going full tit for 5 minutes at times and with your size you would either be a prop or hooker so you would most likely be in the thick of it during these long times cleaning ot rucks or even driving around the rucks with ball in hand. Another thing to work on would be carrying the ball (having played football I know D-linemen are notoriuos for having hands like feet!) as it is not only the backs that carry the ball, you would have to carry a lot and learn to pass.

Hope this has encouraged you and not the opposite!!!! Go for it as rugby is a great sport!!!
