Is "mind your own business" a valid statement or is it an attempt to...

...silence people with different opinions? The way people use this phrase today, I think it's the latter. What do you think?

it is a statement telling you to back off.....if they wanted to silence you they would tell you to "shut up"

I think it means what it says. Apparently you have stuck your nose into someone else's business, and they would like you to remove it and back off.

It is not the latter. You have no right to tell others what to do or what to think. MYOB.

This statement was used for people that jumped into YOUR conversation to give you THEIR opinion. They were not invited to join - so the remark "mind your own business" means stay out of mine.

Mind your own business, means just that, mind your own business.
It means....nobody asked for your opinion, and nobody wants your input, because the matter isn't any of your concern.
Something right-wingers need to grasp the concept of.

It is a valid statement if you are getting into somebody elses' business you have no right to be in.

Example: What kind of panties are your wife wearing right now?

Some context would be helpful. But if you are referring to this board, they could always take a cowards way out and block your responses. But that just shows the closed mindedness of many here.
