GSCE qualifications for a career in journalism?

Hi! i am in year9 at school and am handing in my options sheet very soon, for the courses i am choosing for GCSE. I am particularly interested in Journalism.

I was hoping someone could help as i was just wondering what GCSE qualifications are essential/necessary for a career in Media & Journalism.

I am aware that History, English & Media Studies will be useful! I also very much enjoy these & am 99% sure i will be choosing them!

Thanks!

Not sure - there are plenty of answers here, but you'll have to wade through them :

Good luck xx

Well you pretty much answered your own question, and already seem knowledgable about it! Media Studies was an awesome subject when I did it, and is very useful for journalism, English is a must, and as far as I'm aware, it's compulsory anyway. You could try taking Classical Literature (Classics), though I'm not 100% sure how helpful this would be. Depending on what area of journalism you're interested in, and what your school offers, you could consider psychology, sociology, theatre, sports or art. Universities and employers like well rounded individuals as a whole, but make sure you pick subjects you're interested in, not just because you think you should.

Judging by the state of GMTV I'd guess none!

Seriously though you look like you are on the right track with English and Media, I would ask a connexions advisor or whatever kind of careers advice you get at school at the moment. Also check out what university requirements are for college and work backwards if that makes sense? (i.e. what A-Levels would be good and try to choose good feeder GCSE's to those)

Good luck
