hahaha yes, finally someone who had an embarrassing kiss like me. it was my first kiss too, with my first boyfriend and he decided that it'd be great to go in for the kill. Yeah no so much, it felt so horrible and awkward and I pulled away and started laughing!! I apologized, we got over it, we still laugh about it today. Kisses will come for naturally when you're used to being around each other more and you get to know each other better, trust me! Kisses are great now, but I won't lie for awhile there at the beginning I thought kissing was going to be horrible and always that awkward but it's really not! - eh plus thought i'd add, we've been dating for almost 3 years now, so it didn't screw us up!

Be honest and tell him that this was your first time. Tell him to have patience with you. You know, since he didn't warn you he probably was worried about his "performance" as well.
