I think countries that don't have much rain or very dry land use the irrigation. It is mostly used in North China Plain, the Punjab (in India), and the Great Plains of the US.

I don't know if this will help you much, but I live in an area that uses irrigation a lot. We have very poor soil, mostly sand. Nothing much grows in sand. And soon after it rains, the sand soaks it up and dries out fast. That's why we have lots of irriagtion systems throughout our county. I live in central Wisconsin, in a county called Adams. You might be able to research this area on the net. Irrigation around here started in the early 60's, and is in widespread usage throughout the county. But I'd have to say that without the irrigation, the most the farmers could successfully grow around here are sandburrs (weeds). So I guess that would maximize landuse around here, wouldn't it? I would think that if you looked up some topography maps of Wisconsin, you'd see why central Wisconsin is called Sand Land. You should also find a lot of information about irrigation in Wisconsin too. Hope this helps. <*)))><

One of them would be China.Irrigation is the practice of applying water to plants and crops artificially, in other words, giving plants water the non-natural way. This is handy for countries or regions that lack rainfall, or have a staggering population - therefore, they need to utilise their land to the maximum in order to produce enough food to feed everyone. You can check out the site I found on Google below.

How about you do your own homework and stop asking other people to do it for ya. Kinda like back when everyone else was in school and didn't have yahoo answers.. or even *gasp* the internet.
