we are told in my district to promote abstinence only. It's so dumb though. So many kids are already having sex, and aren't going to stop. Plus I had 2 girls in my class that were already pregnant, and just had their babies. We need to teach about safe sex, and the dangers of contracting an STD...or dealing with a baby when you are not ready.

I think sex education should consist of the teachings of safe sex because even if abstinence is taught there is a big chance that adolescents and people in general will have sex anyway because of hormones. I feel that abstinance should be mentioned as a great option in sex education, but teachers of sex education should focus on teaching about protection and health clinics such as planned parenthood.

I think they should teach that being abstinent should be the teen's first choice but if he/she decides to disregard being abstinent, and is going to have sex, that they should use a condom or another type of birth control. So I guess they should teach both.
