Feminists: Should NOW censor birth control education? Or just infertility education? "Concerned by the lack of awareness about age-related infertility, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) conducted an ad campaign last fall, featuring a picture of a baby bottle shaped like an hourglass, implying that time might be running out for women who wished to have children. Perhaps not surprisingly, the ASRM was excoriated by radical feminists for scaring women with a message that they must have children early or risk childlessness. Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women, openly displayed her hostility to the ad campaign in an interview for the “60 Minutes” story." http://www.beverlylahayeinstitute.org/articledisplay.asp?id=826&department=BLI&categoryi d=dotcommentary Please note whether or not you agree with NOW protesting and effectivly killing the plan to educate the public on infertility. Thanks! Here is a second source, to clarify what happened. http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/igbygoesdown/7.html

Should or can? Pretending people have the power to censor an idea just by opposing it is a tried and true tactic to silence opposition on the grounds of 'free speech'. Practice what you preach and admit that NOW, and any other individual or organisation has the right to say what they think about any idea or proposal from anyone. Cheers :-)

NOW should not censor the ads. Women are smart enough to choose whether or not to take the ads to heart. And some women really don't realize that their fertility goes down as they get older. And I agree with the poster who said that NOW should go to places where women are truly oppressed.

I think the debate about age related infertility is mainly a cover for political shock at the fertility crisis. Undoubtedly there are some women who find time runs out for them, but if they could have found the right person sooner, I'm sure they would have, so what the point of constantly reminding them is, I don't know. Still, I'm all for freedom of information, so why not? :-)
