| You know I'm gonna stir up a hornet's nest with this one but I really don't care! The problems with education today are these points: The Me generation: ie: every child is unique. true and false. They all need the basics of plain common sense and how to be polite and how to get along. The fact that this new program: "No Child Left Behind Act" just ain't cuttin' it. Parents tend to fade out at the middle school levels because "Johnny thinks he can do it on his own!" So I just let him and they tend to forget that parenting is a lifelong committment. Turn off the TV! Turn off the stereo! Turn off all outside distractions for at least 3 hours a day and tune into the family and each other! FUNDING, FUNDING, FUNDING! It's going to too many frivolous places in Congress appropriations. Finally, the issue of racism and gender specifics are still being argued in today's schools, no matter whether it's Deep South, Uppity North, Way out West or Mid "Motown" and this is more far reaching than any program that can be applied to simply because the ME generation is now grown and doesn't have a clue as to really honestly raise children without a bunch of mindless and gutteral interference! Thank God my kids have common sense and good jobs! |

| I don't know much about how the education system works but I do know one thing and that is that HS teachers are not preparing students properly for college. They simply don't teach course fundamentals well or in detail(like math, science and vocabulary). I can tell you the professors I've seen (who are frustrated) and students I've been in classes with, they simply weren't prepared to take upper level courses and pass well because they didn't understand the basic concepts. In college it's much fast paced and less interaction with the professor so basically the student is learning on his own most of the time, so if he/she wasn't taught properly then he will struggle in college. |
