| do you have to give a months notice in education?!?! help lol im lost?!? i have been working in the education department for four and a half months now i have decided to leave so i did an interview for another job i got the job woo lol but since then i have been told by my boss that all i have to do is write a letter then leave as i havent reached my 6month probation/contract time yet then since last week which i had this chat with my boss hes now told me that i need to work till the end of may!! but im ment to have started my new job this monday but due to my kindness ive said i will have to work after next monday now tonight at work i have been in the office with the head teacher of the school he spoke to me like i was a child! and said i will have to work till end of may which is like loads notice plus i shall loose my new job!! what should i do any help would be really helpfull should i just go on sick or not or should i just leave the job im at now also the head has said basically if i dont work till end of may he will do me a bad refrence! i dont have anything in writing to say that should give four weeks or anything i dont even have terms and conditions or any copys of my contract! as its my current job then arent i supposed to like use them as a refrence lawfully? |

| You don't have to give any notice. Two weeks is sufficient. The head teacher is trying to use you. The only thing they can legally say if you use them as a reference is you dates of employment. If they add other info, you can sue them. She is being petty because it will mean more work for her. Move on and don't worry about it. |

| You only have to work if you have signed a contract with the school. Otherwise you can leave whenever you want. Walk out the door today and never come back if you want, they can't do anything to you without a signed, legal document. They know this and are going to bully you into doing what THEY want, there is nothing they can do to make you stay longer than you want. BTW - you already have the job, you don't need his reference any more. |
