How will home education benefit me?

I'm 14, and after finding school life very difficult to get used to due to recent changes at my school, me and my mum have been looking into home education. Today we were visited by a councellor, and she had told us it was either that I left school and continued education at home, being taught by my mum or a private tutor, or continue at school like a normal pupil, and that there was no option between.

After looking online we found that I could choose to be home-educated, while visiting school for certain lessons (as I want to get my diploma in Art, so that I'm able to go to college).

I wanted to find out how home-education works, and how would it benefit me, and what is different to regular school education?

How will home education benefit me. It will not -- your schooling must be complete -- not only in book reading and practical application is why you need to stay in school. Want that diploma to go to callege and continue in the subject you have chosen for a career -- ART.
Does your mum have the cash to spring for a tutor -- most people make it from pay check to pay check -- NO...Your gona get a job and pay for everything---right??? If you feel very strong about home schooling --- maybe everyone should quit and every one in the country school them self...

"Like a normal pupil". Man that sounds like this counselor is not a very good counselor. She must be from the Public School System.

You have some choices to make here and I would go with the homeschooling since you clearly don't belong in the school system along with all the other brainwashed kids and adults alike.

You can do either Homeschooling with your Mom teaching you, you can have a tutor, you can do it on your own with some help from Mom when needed, you can go to a Charter school, or even an online school. There are lots of choices when it comes to getting your education at home. Good for you for standing up and realizing that homeschooling is really the best when you want it to work.

The first place to start is the homeschool legal defense association website. www.hslda.org.

They will have all the laws according to the state. Don't let them confuse you or make you scared. Most states just make you fill out either an intent to homeschool or the affidavit by October of the year you plan to school, then some states require testing and other don't. Usually once a year, some require you to keep track of attendence and others don't.

If you don't go thru a charter or online school then you will have to decide what curriculum to use or not to use.

If you know where to look the internet is a wealth of information. Everything you need to know to get a diploma is online and for FREE!. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking otherwise.

Don't try to go for the GED. This is considered a cop out by most colleges. Just have your Mom issue you a diploma or get it from an online school if you do that. Just make sure you have some kind of transcript which your Mom can also make up. There are so many colleges out there that thrive on finding homeschoolers for their school.

Most kids that come out of the Public school system come out dumber than they went in. You can learn more in a shorter period of time at home than you can in any institution.

Home-education is the same as regular school except for the fact that you are the only student. Each class is tailored to your own special needs and desires. There are numerous options involved. Either your parents can be your teachers or you can hire a tutor(s)..... For people in your situation home-education can be freeing and can make learning enjoyable again.
