| Is our generation really worse than any other?
It depends on what generation your talking about. If you're going way back to the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's or even over the 60's, than yes this generation is worse than that. However, if you're talking about 10-30 years ago, I wouldn't say 'worse', perhaps just different. This generation has been know as the communication era. Mass media & different things influence this generation greatly. So many celebrities & movies showing teen pregnancy, drug use & various different statistics show that these things have declined. Although these statistics state these facts, it doesn't mean all do. Statistics vary & are quite biased so you must realize that. I believe it's a matter of personal opinion and what so it's completely negotiable. Have you turned on the TV lately? Most celebrities you'll see are pregnant & not married, are teenagers & pregnant, are on drugs, were caught driving while intoxicated and guess what? Teens & others are influenced by this & it becomes and epidemic, therefore, people are stereotyped by what "some" people do and not everyone. So although it's stated (again this is a statistic and might now be accurate) that 79% of high school graduates go on to college, people focus on the 21% of people that don't. & That's a big number. Plus, this states the people that graduate high school, but did you know that many people wont graduate high school? Drug abuse & use has increased traumatically as well & the world focuses on this. Although this might not be high school students (though many will agree that a majority of high school students do drugs) drug abuse is at its peak for various ages. Movies like Juno, celebrities like Jamie Lynn Spears change the mind of certain people on our generation. So are we the worse? That's negotiable. But do we seem like the worst based on the media? Yes, we probably do. & Hollywood seems to play a major role on this. Have a great summer |

We're actually not that bad. There have defiantly been other generations that have trumped anything that we've done. The biggest negative thing we can be accused of is "hooking up", but most adults don't realize that it doesn't always mean going all the way. And of course there going to be those teenagers who wide up pregnant, but that's happened before, and at much higher rates than now, since condoms have become so effective and accessible. We're not even close to the worse generation in terms of sex, drugs, smoking, and alcohol use. Not many teenagers smoke cigarettes, yet a little less than half of adults do. We're actually ahead of our parents in some many ways because of the technology we grew up with, many of us had to teach our parents about PCs. The cell phone, while some people over use them, actually make it easier for parents to keep track of their teenagers. Before 1950, we're agruably worse, but once 1960 hits, we don't even hit that mark by any means. That generation was about "ME", our generation is more politically involved and has a better understanding of current events that previous generations; and that is mostly because we are in the Age of Information. We're also the highest generation to be going off to college, whether that be university, state college, or community college. Mostly because we have to since it is much more competitive to have a successful future with a college education. However, where we are at fault is in the statistics conercing STDs. Back in March, there was a study that showed 1 out of every 4 teenage girl has an STD, whether they realize it or not. And they didn't give those STDs to themselves, so it's not like us guys are innocent either. And while the majority of high school students go on to come to some form of college, the military, or public service (police, etc.), many do not continue that education passed a BA. So that's where our higher education stops, for many of us. We will also be going into marriages with the highest devorce rate in US history if the trend continues. We will certainly have a lot on our plate as adults, but I don't think we're going to be the destruction of society as adults would like to think. And what's also interesting, is that you won't find a parent who does not think the world of their kid regardless of how successful or not they are, so the blame is always put on someone eslse teenage children.

No hardly, the boomer generation- Your grandparents-are still taking heat for having more fun than the laws allow. Even as old people. We are terrible. We insist on having fun. You guys are great! You have so much more information at hand, you can go so far in making society better for everyone. We kind of like you, even if we are old. We do wish you would be more polite though. We miss manners and civility.
