The Grit has a spectacular aura about
R & S: What is the purpose of public school education?

I couldn't ask my whole question because there wasn't enough space in the question area.

What is the purpose of public school education?

A) To provide factual information. By factual information, I mean information that cannot be argued (i.e. living human beings can only continue to survive if they are provided with oxygen either naturally or artificially).

B) To provide a wide variety of information, controversial or otherwise. This would include information that students and their parents are encouraged to question and disagree with.

C) To get children used to working within an institution for the sake of preparing them for the business world.

D) To keep kids off the streets; what else would they do during the day . . . . child labor is illegal, you know.

E) Some kind of combination of the above

F) None of the above/A reason not listed

This potentially could be religion here.

A) To provide factual information.

But I'd add to that that public education exists to provide children with the "bare minimum" of education to be a part of our society. Some public schools even fail at that.

I feel that "B) To provide a wide variety of information, controversial or otherwise." is more at the college level and it prepares young adults to be assets of our society.

Our public schools mollycoddle children too much to properly prepare them for any workplace. Good homeschooling and private schools can accomplish A), B), and C).

Oh Hai LOL has a spectacular aura about
It turns out that it is "mostly" C, with a healthy dose of "A" which contains the inevitable smattering of "B" which is a definite requisite. Unfortunately, some parents and children treat it as "D".

I guess my answer is E.

The Dude has a spectacular aura about
E) Some combination of the above.

You also left out "skills" that kids might need for careers, life, etc. And there is a certain amount of jumping through hoops that gets people used to bureaucratic bullshit, especially in college.

Probably all of the above, except D. Less so for C, at least before high school.

I hope they are educating my son.
