Free education vs grants in South Africa?

Do you think that it would have been better if government introduced free education instead of child grants which has its flaws(in many cases the children do not even benefit)?

I can associate with "free" education since I partly got one. Grants payed in the form of money are wide open to abuse and could easily end up not benefitting the child at all.

I would like to see partially free education. Parents or guardians income should be assessed and a grant of some sort could be made accordingly.
Lisak- I do not agree with your generalizaion. It is unfair to blame everyone for the stupidity of a few. An uneducated nations is just making matters worse, hence your comment about just having kids "williy-nilly".
My uneducated mother worked up to 12 hours a day to send me to school and when I was able, I taught her to read and write. All this while more money was spend on white education.

Education is suppose to be free Ikes....anyway I really do not see why the government should provide education for the poor in the first place, they just vandalise the schools and it is causing the taxpayer too much money. Anyway people should think before they have children, think if they will be able to educate them, feed them etc. Not just HAVE children and then wonder oops..........if I can't even afford to feed myself how the hell will I be able to afford to feed my kids and educate them. I think the poor should be kept uneducated because even educating them seems fruitless...............look at the university students breaking down and destroying the Kovsies campus....what is the point.

ADD: shamepies Dina must I now feel bad that your mother was uneducated or that she had to work for 12 years? I went to a private school sister so my Dad paid triple, no government "hand outs" for me.

Interesting idea...

But there are honest women out there who do need the grant money. Think of it this way, a free education wont buy the school uniform or lunch. That grant money helps raise some of these kids, granted some people dont really deserve it, but what of the children. I just dont get why people bring kids into the world if they cant support themselves to start off with. I am all for free education though... But I dont mind paying an arm and a leg to ensure my son recieves only the best.
