| How does each candidate stand on special education in America? What (if anything) have the candidates said about how they plan to accommodate the 1 in 150 kids diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders in this country today? What changes (if any) would they propose in our educational system to be more effective in teaching non traditional learners. Would they consider what will become of these children when their time for college arrives? How will America's higher education facilities deal with a large population of students with disabilities of Autism related disorders in particular? Has anyone read answers to any of these questions from any of the candidates? Please provide sources. I have searched all their sites and glassbooth.org as well. I have emailed the question out as well but never gotten anything but the typical go to our site for the issues, etc. I found that according to CNN (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.education.html): Hillary Clinton would end No Child Left Behind. Promote early childhood education...Improve K-12 system by meeting funding promises of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)...Expand early-intervention mentoring programs. Identify at-risk youth early and provide $1 billion in intensive interventions. Barack Obama would reform No Child Left Behind, ensuring access to high-quality early childhood education programs...(but there was no mention of IDEA or early intervention programs). John McCain voted for No Child Left Behind... (not only does he not mention early intervention but supports No Child Left Behind). |

| Have you tried visiting their websites? I highly doubt that either of the candidates have talked at lenght about this very important issue. They've hit on education in a general sense, but not specifically about autism. I hope you eventually find what you need (and I honestly doubt you will find it here). Good luck. |
