why would the government even think of budget cuts on education?

1.no education=ignorance
2. no education=bad choices

can't they cut it off something else?

This is a very difficult question to answer.
throwing money at a problem will not necessarily fix it. We started along the right path with the no child left behind act, but we still have much work to do. we should give money to schools who perform better, however, the question then becomes, will poorly performing schools do better if they have updated tools to teach with?
if we dont force schools to get rid of bad teachers, i think little will change.

the next issue is that where are we going to cut the money from? there will always be a negative to cutting from this or that.
do we cut funding from the war, while we keep troops deployed? just cutting funding isnt going to end the war.
do we cut from pork? if we do, then what do you consider pork?
im sure most people would say pork is the $300 million bridge to nowhere. To some that is pork, but then to others, that is land development to increase economic activity in alaska.

The government should get completely out of the education business by abolishing the Dept. of Education, which will lead to the locals controlling education rather than the Feds indoctrinating the youth of this nation.

First .... spending more and more money on public schools has gotten no results.
Second .... the government budgeting process automatically increases spending every year ... so a "cut" may be just a decrease in the amount of the increase.
Third: the only way we will fix the education problem is if we issue vouchers for every child for the parents to choose a school and allow competition

Why would you want government involvement in education period? I put free education (as in free from government) up there with free press. Remember that all totalitarian regimes dictate what is taught in schools.
