| Why does God focus so much on forgiveness, instead of on education, help and therapy?
Let's take the example of a child-rapist. If he repents, he can go to Heaven, because God forgives him. He sends others to Hell, because they didn't repent.
It seems like such a short-minded view on punishment to me.
Any punishment should have the element of education and therapy in it. Nobody is born as a rapist, every criminal is more or less a victim too. A victim of society. The best thing to do, for society to be a safer place, is educate the criminal and help him/her in becoming a better human being. Only after that, we can start to talk about forgiveness.
Why doesn't God do that? Why is Hell so uneducational? Why doesn't Hell have the element in it of making people better souls? How can God even talk about forgiveness, when He doesn't give us the proper tools first to reach that forgiveness?
