Formal education methods?

the teacher instructs the whole class and the students work alone, are more reliable and produce better results that informal methods.

Do you agree or disagree? Why?

I believe that the teacher should introduce a new concept and teach it to the whole class. Give the assingment and set students to the task.
Then, depending on the grade level s/he is teaching, pull the kids according to their abilities (b/c we all know that all students are not equal) in smaller groups and work them targeting that groups specific needs, with that task.
Once the concept has been taught and the assingments have been completed the teacher should check for understanding and this is where s/he will know that re-teaching needs to be done.
Either way it is all on the instructor. How well the teacher manages the classroom, teaches and presents the material from begining to end and if they check to make sure that their students have learned what they expected them to.

well , i feel that after you probe their schemas you will be able to figure out which student should work together easily, which will make your job a lot easier because they will learn a lot from each other. Students should feel they can help each other freely once instructions have been given. It expands the learning experience to new heights.

No ... I disagree. Im a student and I know I would just doss or talk with out harsh instructions and constant supervision. How can you expect me not to in a room full of my friends you know. You need a teacher to actively teach and interact with students.
