Music memory education tune and lyrics?

i've thought about this for years, now it's time to ask what you think.
How is it that you can hear a song for the first time in say 15 years and you can remember the tune and a lot of the lyrics
..try it with a song you haven't heard in years.

and yet for instance when it's time to take exams you can't remember what you learnt from even a few months ago,let alone something you were taught 15 years ago ?
therefore if lessons were set to music, do you think you would remember them for years to come ?

i'm not talking about just 1 song, this is a massive amount of information we are remembering in the subconsious and the trigger is the tune, you only need to hear the first few seconds of the song, then the rest you can remember, as i said the tune is the trigger, do any memory exercises/systems use such triggers ?
