Why education in USA is sooo expensive?

I want to study in USA and I'm looking for a public university; I understand that private colleges are expensive, but why also the public ones are *so* expensive? I mean education should be free for everyone.

The lowest tuitions fee that i have seen for IN-STATE students is $2000. That's absurd! For international students like me is worst! $6000 or more...

Education is free up until the college level. If you made it free for everyone after that, we'd either have to double income taxes or make people compete even harder for a place at a college - at the moment, pretty much everyone who wants to go to college can have a shot at it. This is pretty much the only country that you can do that in - I certainly don't want to be paying for someone who doesn't have a shot at finishing college to spend 4 years trying to. They can pay for that themselves.

$6,000 is extremely cheap for college. But that doesn't cover housing or books or food. Keep that in mind as well. Start looking for scholarships.

One doomed space marine has a spectacular aura about
Because the U.S is economically crumbling and rapidly.
The economy is going to fail on a level never seen in history.
and thus the price of everything is steadily increasing.
If you don't believe me the U.S dollar is at an all time low.

In half a year the Australian dollar has gone from the longtime average of 72-75c to a current value of 92c U.S

if such a trend were to continue I could see the Australian dollar exceeding the U.S one within 12- 24 months.
something that has never happened since the australian dollar was released on to the international market.
