The factory system can be improved by making it more humane. Robert Owen showed the way in the 1820's in England when he turned his cotton mills into livable places to work, with cheap housing available for workers, educational opportunities, and entertainment, all at company expense. Other businessmen thought he was nuts but the still made a profit. Unfortunately no other businessmen followed his lead.
