Would you rather MAKE ART, MAKE HISTORY or just MAKE MONEY?

And do you think ordinary people like us will be *allowed* to choose this, in this day and age? Or do you think that your Companies will *force* things down our throats as usual?

Will we have the choice? ^_^ And if you want to MAKE _____ (that is, something else), feel free to chime in with what you'd want to make.

make art... it is possible to do all three without getting lost in commercial crap that society has become... it is choice... one's job doesn't necessarily dictate how they live the rest of their lives... one can paint or volunteer on their days off... it is about choice... if you choose to wallow in what you might feel is the darkness in your life... that is where you'll stay... if broadening your horizons with a little sunshine is your thing... then anything is possible... SMILE... it's art, that might make someones day or you a little richer...

History. For making a difference in people's lives. Art would be second, since it can make people's lives better too, but history could be more vital.

If I could make music and make a living (not a bunch of money, just a comfortable living), I would be a very happy man.

If you wanted to make history and art, money is dependent on it. It is very impossible for money is essentially a contributory factor to make progress in the fields of art and history.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

I've been trying to make money for so long I have given up on ever having enough to live on. So, in order to have a reachable goal, I choose to make art.

My art is kinetic, and yet sometimes static. It resembles life and is like nothing ever experienced. It uplifts and yet saddens. It is beautiful, if only in its homeliness.

At least with art I can afford to be philosophical.

i wanted to make art, and DID. I wrote a novel, Mother Mars by corwyn green, and my career and social life suffered because i gave up TV and socializing for about 5 years to finish this book. Ok, gave up games for only 1 year. stupid games. And after all that, my book sold 3 copies. yup. three.

Turns out, you can make art, but you then gotta sell it too! No one told me that! How many salesmen you know that are also good artists?

I don't have enough unique real-world solutions to want to make history, lol. I'd have loved to make history the way Philip K Dick did -- you know -- be someone most people have not heard of but have an obscure award named after you? Nah, no history for me. I wanted to affect people through art, make them think and feel. I never wanted to make anyone *do* anything, much less make laws or wars.

Yes, you have choices in your life, but the joke is, by the time you know enough to make them, you're too old to do anything!!!
For example, in hind-sight, i should have learned how to be a saleman, majored in creative writing (well ok, double-major in computer science just in case the writing thing didn't work out) and minored in salesmanship in college, then went to write for money.
Because you know what, when a magazine wants you to cover a fasion show or an auto race and write about it, you may be writing crap for money but at least they pay you to travel and see things, and it's better for an artist to do that than to sit in front of a computer in an office all day, where after a while, you have nothing to write ABOUT. sitting in an office is not too bad. it is relaxing. but it is killer for creativity since there is no inspiration.
if i wrote crap for money, after a lot of doing that and writing art in spare time (which i could have done working for a magazine even better than i could have done programming computers), i'd have had a writing resume that i could have sent places along with the novel i wrote in my spare time.
so my point is, you can't really blame corporations. i don't. you *do* have a choice, but not in the way you probably think you do as a teen or college kid.
i guess what i'm saying is that "hindsight is 20/20" and it is possible, in hind-sight, for me to have been something other than a corporate drone.
but it's difficult, and not just in a "work hard" difficult way, but in a "make smart choices given only false information all your life" and very few people make those. the junk i was told "always be yourself" and "honesty is the best policy" held me back from succeeding as a writer. I should have been proffesional (not artistic) about it just to do anything to get paid and make a name for myself, and THEN i'd sell them some novels.

good luck to you. whatever you do, you need to be able to make money so you dont' end up living with parents all your life. Too many people follow dreams they are not suited for, like a guy who is so shy he can't ask a waiter for what he wants to order in a store wanted to be a history teacher in the worst schools. Right. lived with parents and was depressed. Don't be that guy. Make enough money to live by yourself, or at least, get enought skills so you can. In addition to that, if you want to get into politics or art, there is a right way to do it, and it is NOT by being idealistic.

watch "art school confidential". that moovie is deep if you ever did anything artsy.

Andy Warhol made all three. My personal choice is to make money first, and save art for my retirement. History is not the stage I see myself making a mark on.
