Do people really believe that women have been equal to men throughout history?

I've read through a few old questions and it seems that some people believe that women have always had it "good". I've read comments that there was never a need for feminism. I was just wondering if this shows a lack of knowledge about history-and in fact current events in many parts of the world, or if it is because they truly believe this to be true. As an historian, it shocked me to read some of those comments.

No they don't actually believe that. Half of them are attempting to justify their chauvanist beliefs with made up info and the other half are just saying whatever is ignorant enough to piss us off!
