| Should I get a tonsillectomy for recurrent tonsillitis that may not be caused by strep?
I am a 24-year old male of average build.I have recurrent tonsillitis (which has been going on and off for months starting October 2007),but it doesn't seem to be caused by bacteria, because Anti-Streptolysin O tests return negative(just recently, and a previous test months ago when I had another tonsillitis).I'm thinking my throat infections are viral in nature.Apart from that, I am also having colds.AND some unknown rashes that appear randomly;they may be allergies, but I've never had a history of allergy before.I understand tonsillectomy should be considered for recurrent tonsillitiscaused by strep. But what if it is viral?Would tonsillectomy help me in the future?I am worried a tonsillectomy may cause more harm to my immune system. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
